Operator Performance of Voxel Placement for Single-Voxel MRS of Breast Lesions

چکیده
Introduction: Single-voxel H MR spectroscopy of human breast cancer has become increasingly common, with clinical applications in diagnosis and treatment monitoring, and multi-site clinical trials currently in progress. In order for these measurements to be useful in characterizing lesions, the MRS voxel placement must be accurate and consistent. Poor voxel placement creates partial volume errors and can introduce artifacts, reduce signal-to-noise, and lower measurement reproducibility. To date, the potential problem of voxel placement inconsistency has not been directly addressed. This is difficult to test in the true setting as voxel placement is performed mid-study with the subject in the scanner. For this work, we performed a retrospective observer-performance study of voxel placement to measure the consistency of voxel placement by expert operators. Note that this study design only tests the agreement of voxel placement and does not determine which placements are more correct or lead to betterquality spectra. We also compared performance between different lesion types, with the expectation that the concordance between operators would be higher for masses than non-mass-like enhancement

Quantitative H MRS of the Normal Human Breast
Introduction: The clinical utility of H MRS measurements in breast cancer is well-established: cancers are more likely to have a detectable total choline (tCho) resonance than benign lesions. Quantitative MRS methods have also found higher concentrations of tCho in cancers than in benign lesions. The question of whether tCho can be detected in normal (non-lactating) fibroglandular tissue has no...
متن کاملSingle voxel in vivo proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy of breast lesions: experience in 77 cases.
PURPOSE We aimed to determine the value of in vivo single voxel proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in characterizing breast lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Breast MRS was performed in 77 patients. Choline resonance peak at 3.2 parts per million (ppm) was defined positive when it was at least two times higher than baseline. MRS findings were compared with the final diagnosis of cases ...
متن کاملCorrelation between choline level and Gd-DTPA enhancement in patients with brain metastases of mammary carcinoma.
Single voxel 1H double spin-echo MR spectroscopy was used to examine 15 cases of brain metastasis of mammary carcinoma (18 lesions) in relation to Gd-DTPA enhanced MR imaging. For lesions larger than 50% of MRS voxel size, there was significant correlation between Gd-DTPA-enhanced MRI signal and MRS-detected signal of choline (Cho) containing compounds (r = 0.86, P < 0.01; n = 8). The observed ...
متن کاملVoxel Placement Precision for GABA-Edited Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy
The purpose of the present study was to assess the reproducibility of voxel placement for GABA-edited MRS. GABA-edited MRS data were acquired in 13 healthy volunteers from (3 cm)3 voxel; and within the same session a second acquisition was independently prescribed. A three-dimensional voxel mask image was reconstructed in T1-image-space using the SVMask tool (in house software). Reproducibility...
متن کاملSingle Voxel MRS and Dynamic Contrast Enhancement MR in Differentiating Benign from Malignant Breast Lesions in Iran
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death in women all over the world and its prevalence is increasing in many countries. It’s the most common cancer in Iranian women with a mortality rate of 2614 cases per year (Jafari et al., 2014; Sharifian et al., 2015). Early detection of that would be helpful for its successful treatment. Nowadays some techniques such as X-ray mammography, ultra...
